Running Scheduley solo (no team setup needed)

Running Scheduley solo

One chair, one truck, one you. Good news: Scheduley is built for that out of the box — you do not need to add yourself as a team member, and you do not need to set up shifts that mirror your business hours. Skip the Team tab entirely and everything works.

How solo mode works

With no shifts configured, your availability comes straight from Business info → Business Hours. Your booking page, your website, and your AI agent all offer times inside those hours, one appointment at a time — when a slot is taken, it’s taken. Change your hours and availability follows instantly. That’s the whole setup:

  • Salon or studio: set your hours, add your services, publish — clients book you, not a staff list.
  • Trades: same thing in Jobs & Field Service mode — calls become jobs on your schedule, with estimates, invoices, and on-my-way texts. No “tech roster” required for a one-truck shop, and the dispatch board still earns its keep solo: it’s your day’s worklist, and tapping Dispatch is the one-tap way to text a client you’re on the way.
  • Your AI knows you’re solo: callers are never asked “do you have a preferred team member?” — the agent goes straight to finding your next opening.

When adding yourself IS worth it

Adding yourself as a team member is purely optional polish. It buys you three things:

  • Your name on client texts — confirmations say “with Maya” and on-my-way texts say “Jake is on the way” instead of the business name alone.
  • Different hours than the shop — if you take appointments outside (or inside) your posted business hours, shifts let your bookable time differ from your public hours.
  • A head start on growing — when the second chair or second truck arrives, your own schedule is already a column on the team calendar.

The one thing to know before touching shifts

The moment you add your first shift, shifts take over from business hours as the source of availability — days without a shift stop being bookable. So if you add yourself, give yourself shifts for every day you work. Scheduley warns you about open days with no coverage, but it’s cleaner to not half-configure it: either skip Team entirely, or set it up fully.

Everything else is identical

Solo or staffed, you get the same platform: the AI Front Desk, waitlist, recurring appointments, estimates & invoices, reviews, and win-backs. The only feature that genuinely doesn’t apply is team management — and it’ll be waiting when you need it.
